The Poppy House is owned by Steve and Amanda Jenkins who bought it in January 2003 and have recently restored the whole of the building. The main elements include making all the B&B rooms ensuite, improving facilities for the disabled, improving the facilities in the Kitchen so we can serve a wider range of food and redecorating the Restaurant. We moved to Bishop's Castle from Leicestershire although Amanda originally comes from Llanfair Caereinion which is about 30 miles from Bishop's Castle. We have a Sales and Marketing background - we first met when working for Smith & Nephew in Birmingham in the 1990's. From there Steve progressed to become Sales Director for Swish and then worked for Ernst & Young in London where he was part of a team who helped to turn around underperforming companies. Meanwhile Amanda moved to Boots in Nottingham where she had international responsibility for marketing Nurofen. In her final role she was responsible for the advertising for Boots the Chemist as well as the Advantage Card. Having spent many years in corporate life we were keen to remove ourselves from its pressures and we decided to move to Shropshire. We fell in love with The Poppy House the first time we saw it and have not looked back since. Steve's early training at Catering college is now being used to full effect whilst Amanda concentrates on the Marketing and general admin. We have taken on an excellent full time Head Chef to further enhance the Poppy House's reputation for serving good quality, home cooked fresh food. The Head Chef's name is Albert and he comes from Estonia. He is married to Natasha and has a young daughter. Our waitresses come from Bishop's Castle and most of them have been with us since we took over in January 2003. We hope that this makes for a warm and friendly reception when you visit us - if you do have any comments, please contact us as we are always keen to know what our customers think. |
