4 Star Rating

We were thrilled to be awarded a 4 star rating as a Restaurant with Rooms. The award was granted following a visit by one of the WTB assessors. Particular elements she picked out were the excellent choice of starters and main courses in the restaurant with use of fresh and local produce and the excellent choice of wine which she thought was in keeping with the style of the Poppy House. The bedrooms were also classed as excellent with the mattresses being described as 'exceptional'! She classed the cooked breakfast as being of an excellent standard with a choice of quality toast and preserves. She also thought that the standards of housekeeping were excellent as well as the hospitality which was shown by all members of staff.

The Building

We have recently conducted a a major restoration of the building. The main elements include making all the B&B rooms ensuite, improving facilities for the disabled, improving the facilities in the Kitchen so we can serve a wider range of food and redecorating the Restaurant.

We have aimed to complete all this work to a very high standard of comfort and have exposed many original timber frame walls and ceilings together with originqal fireplaces. The decoration and furniture have been specifically designed to complement the character of the house.

Evening Opening in the Restaurant

We have extended the Restaurant so we now have a room for private dinner parties and functions. The room seats up to 20 people and has an open fireplace with a real log fire. It's also adjacent to the courtyard for drinks on warm summer evenings.

We are open on Friday and Saturday nights and reservations are essential. Opening times may vary during the winter so it's best to call and check. We take reservations from 6.30pm - 8.45pm. Please contact us if you would like to make a reservation.

Our emphasis is on good food and wine. Our food is imaginatively prepared using the best of local, seasonal produce and herbs from the garden and all of our meals are freshly made on the premises.
